Zlota 44 // Warsaw // Poland // Daniel Libeskind
‘Representing a new direction for high-rise residential living in Poland, Zlota 44 by SDL creates a unique skyline in Warsaw. Shaped and inspired by Warsaw’s history, this soaring 251 unit building is scheduled to be completed in 2010. To complete this project, SDL is working with the Orco Property Group.
‘As someone who knows the Polish culture intimately, and lived under the strategy of Poland, between the destruction by the Nazis and oppression under the Soviets, this building represents a new direction for Poland, east and west.’
‘It is a response to the destruction of Warsaw and post war Russian reconstruction. The building offers a new light with its façade, its form, shape, a new profile form which a new skyline of Warsaw can be read. This is not another corporate building that keeps Warsaw as a tabularasa. It is a building that embraces the aspirations of Warsaw and is mindful of its economic circumstances. The eastern face of the building is sculpted by the path of the sun to provide required day light to surrounding buildings. It is a unique building shaped by Warsaw’s history and its light. This building will address a major shift in major cities around the world, where residential buildings will emerge as the most striking designs.’
‘The building illuminates Warsaw through its sculpural form and structure Its facade and volume shape a new profile on the skyline. The building embraces the complex history of the site and the aspirations of Warsaw. It is a unique building shaped by Warsaw’s soul and light.’ Daniel Libeskind
Number of Floors: 54

I can’t believe the garbage that comes out of Daniel Libeskind’s mouth, and that so-called journalists print uncritically. Exactly how is this building “Shaped and inspired by Warsaw’s history”?
Libeskind designed similar curved towers for Tel Aviv and for Milan. Libeskind said the Tel Aviv tower was “inspired by the rich history of Israel.” In Milan he said the shape was “inspired by the work of Michelangelo, Davinci and Italian Culture.”
Of course he never explains HOW these shapes symbolize anything. What a complete ass he is!
This is definitely one of the best designs I have seen lately. I dont understand why so many of you bash Libeskind.
Daniel Libeskind has gone from being a one-liner hack doing crap with diagonal slashes to becoming a two-liner hack doing crap with (i) stupid diagonal slashes, and (ii) stupid curves attached.
With all the crap his office has been churning out, Libeskind’s tired looking “brand” is becoming about as valuable as GM stock. He makes lousy designs with a gimmick or two added as an afterthought.
Whatever it is, it sure isn’t architecture. If this is one of his best designs, I sure feel sorry for the staff he assigned to this pile.
Huh? – “The building embraces the complex history of the site and the aspirations of Warsaw. It is a unique building shaped by Warsaw’s soul and light.” – Really? It’s soul!!! But how?
Just once, I’d like to see Daniel Libeskind pull his head out of his ass long enough to actually explain how any of his buildings symbolize any of the things he says they do. When I see his uninformed writing like this I can really start to see how Libeskind might actually be the complete jackass so many say he really his.
The brashness with which some of these comments are written just shoes, that there are some people who will never be able to appretiate architecture, or even understand what the role of a building and the significance of architecture.
Daniel libeskind is one of my favourite architects. I was at the jewish museum. The building speaks more than anyother i have been to.
U cannot make an absolute judgment of a building by just looking at it, or reading about it.
So now after all that polish bullshit we may forget about it. No way to build anything worth but churches in this country. Graveyards and churches aloud everywhere, no matter permits or even logic. Midage in XXI century !
I was looking through, a while some. Well okay. I need it to complete my assignment in college, fortunately for me mine has a similar subject as the one here. Glad, have a good one.
Libeskind is such an ignoramus. You have to wonder about the very limited intelligence of people who get suckered in by his crap. He’s a disgusting fraud. I would not trust him to design a shelf. How this jackass is allowed to ruin whole cities with his shit is beyond me.
