The ‘Spektra’ Flooring Collection By Bolon
A glorious two collections of the Swedish flooring label Bolon won German design prices last spring:
While the collection ‘Eight’ was among the winners of the ‘iF product design award 2008′, the innovation ‘Spektra’ received the ‘red dot award: product design 2008′.
The woven vinyl flooring collection ‘Spektra’ convinced the jurors by its minimalist design concept combining architecturally influenced colours such as dark grey and dark brown with lurid colour accent in aqua blue, bright green or orange red in stripes of various widths.
‘Spektra’ is an independent collection which brings tension into each room in an impulsive and energetic manner due to its ultramodern stripe mix. That is typically for Bolon; at the latest since the granddaughters of the company founder, Annica and Marie Aklund took over the leadership of the family business, Bolon has been seen as international trendsetter in terms of floor design. The early adoption of international looks in exclusive, hypermodern flooring is their trademark.
The specialist for woven flooring made of vinyl, the Swedish family company Bolon, is known for its independent floor covering collection. Always with their finger on the pulse, the design conscious Swedes are presenting ‘Spektra’ this year, a new multi-facetted object collection which shows its colours.
Intense, energy laden and dynamic through and through ‘Spektra’ brings a lot of drive into every atmosphere. The principal design idea is as simple as it is brilliant: combining varying widths of colourful stripes and patterns with a metallic shimmer which varies depending on the angle you are looking at it from.
The design concept inspires due to the diverse combination of minimalist, architecture orientated colours such as dark grey and dark brown and flamboyant colour accents in aqua blue, bright green or blood red. An ultra modern mix with futuristic glamour.
Marie Eklund, 41, designer and head of marketing at Bolon informs:
”Spektra’ is a very international collection, which aims to create tension. Being multicultural, very modern and impulsive, it is a counter point to our other, quieter collections such as ‘Eight’. With ‘Spektra’ we wanted to do something different, something exciting. For people and properties that have the confidence to show their independence.’
With her vibrant style, the graceful Swede has hit the nail on the head once again, as the prognoses for the coming season 2008/2009 have shown: ‘Visionary’, ‘Vibrant’, ‘Magical’ and ‘Original’ are the key statements from the trend researchers.
With the production of woven, natural looking and recyclable vinyl flooring, which look like textiles, Bolon has gained global monopoly on the market in the last 15 years. The early implementation of international trends into exclusive floor coverings is their trade mark.
Even at the beginning the company recycled. In 1949, Nils Erik Eklund, founder of Bolon, had the idea of turning small PVC bands, a waste product from the neighbouring apron factory, into carpets.
The traditional carpet weaving mill provided the example: instead of a normal yarn, the elastic bands were made into flat textiles, which distinguished themselves through their wear resistant, easy care, damp resistant and quick drying properties. Therefore they were pre-destined to be used in property.
Today the Bolon floorings are more than ever seen as a unique product, which is reminiscent of natural sisal and coconut matting, but at the same time has its very own modern and very valuable look. The characteristic look results from the significant textile structure, the unusual material and the virtuous design, which the newest collection ‘Spektra’ proves once again.
