The Barents Secretariat Tower: World’s Tallest Wooden Building

Reiulf Ramstad Architects (RRA) developing plans for the world’s highest building ever constructed in wood. The cultural center will become a monument of 16-17 floors, all built in natural materials with innovative and environmental solutions in all parts of the building. If the plans are realized it will surpass the current tallest wooden structure which stands 144 feet tall in Arkhangelsk, Russia.

The Norwegian Barents Secretariat wants to materialize the role of the High North with the building of a signature building in the Arctic border town of Kirkenes.

The tower incorporates environmental ideas as it is built with natural recycled materials and uses integrated systems that allow the structure to adapt to the changing seasons to achieve carbon neutrality. Biodegradable household and industrial waste will be reused as biogas.

Inside the tower, energy-efficient offices will serve the Barents Secretariat and the cultural center will include a library, theater and provide a ‘creative environment’ for all users.

The tower will dominate its surroundings and yet provide a unifying space to welcome artists, students and all in the area. The structure aims to ’serve as an example of sustainable construction for the surrounding region while acting as a center for cooperation between Russians, Finns, Swedes, Saamis and Norwegians.’

    ah ya ?!?

Do you guys ever check your facts before publishing; Like take 5 seconds to Google them! What is the worlds tallest wood structure?

The Barents Secretariat Tower; if built, will only be 20 feet shorter than St. Mary’s Church in Nova Scotia, Canada and only 108 years late.
Built in 1904; it actually lost 10 feet in 1914, to a lightning strike. it was 200 feet. They don’t proclaim to be the tallest wood structure in the world, just North America. Maybe that Russian shack is an a really tall rock. Seems to me the cliffs at St Mary’s, Nova Scotia are about 200 feet themselves.
