This proposal by GAZ Arquitectos was recently announced as the winning entry of the competition to create the headquarters of the Higher School of Music in Basque Country in San Sebastián, Spain.

The proposal, entitled Muskiene, compiles a dense program in a relatively small site, causing the volumes to almost exceed local regulations.

Basque Culinary Center By Vaumm


Spanish architecture practice VAUMM have won a competition to design a culinary center at Donostia-San Sebastián in the Basque region of Spain, with their design resembling a pile of stacked plates.

The Basque Culinary Center will be a learning center for gastronomic sciences.

Located on a slope, the layers of the building will follow the contours of the hill.

Microcostas was designed by Vicente Guallart and is located on the stony beach of Vinaroz, Spain. The ‘beach furniture’ has been installed in December 2004.

Granada Grand Hall // Spain // ALA

The program for this project by Helsinki-based architectural firm ALA included a 15.000 sqm performance hall with 1400 seats and a carpark for 300 cars. The development area is located outside Granada city center with a freeway to the south and Sierra Nevada to the north.

Caja Madrid Tower // Madrid // Spain // Foster + Partners

This new headquarters building for Caja Madrid – the largest bank in Spain – continues investigations into the flexible workplace that can be traced through a family of recent office towers, most notably for Swiss Re and Commerzbank. This degree of flexibility results in part from pushing the service cores to the edges of the plan – a strategy first used in the design of the Hongkong Bank – to create uninterrupted 1200-square-meter floor plates.

Rafael López de Heredia Tondonia Winery is one of the oldest and more famous winery in the Spanish region of La Rioja. To celebrate their 125th anniversary they decided to rehabilitate a very old store that the winery founder took to Brussel’s World Fair in 1910 and had been disassembled ever since.

‘Mirador Del Palmeral De Elche’, Spain Competition Proposal By SANAA

Japanese firm SANAA were awarded second prize in the international competition of ‘Mirador del Palmeral de Elche‘, Spain. The palm grove of Elche is a UNESCO world heritage site in Valencia and the competition was organized by the city to provide a landmark for the area, as well as enhance the agricultural palm Arabic tradition.
