Earlier this fall, Sauerbruch Hutton was announced first prize winner in the international competition to design a new home for Hamburg’s Behörde für Stadtentwicklung und Umwelt/BSU (Office for Urban Development and Environment). The new BSU building will be erected in Hamburg Wilhelmsburg and is slated for completion in 2013.

The Prototyp Einfamilienhaus – prototype one-family house – will be built on sites in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. The first residential unit will be realized in Darß, Germany, and is scheduled to be completed by 2008.
According to Der Spiegel, three young German architects are designing structures made completely out of living trees, including a pavilion for concerts in downtown Stuttgart. Oliver Storz, Ferdinand Ludwig and Hannes Schwertfeger call their new specialty ‘Botany Building.’ They are part of a research group at the University of Stuttgart’s Institute of Basics in Modern Architectural Design.
