St. Johns City Hall Renovation By MerzProject

Merzproject was hired to provide a feasibility study, comparative cost analysis, and design to renovate a 70 year-old adobe and wood truss building. With its unique history, the City of St. Johns (Arizona) possessed the framework for a unique downtown environment.

A donation of the Historical Patterson Automotive Building at the heart of the City provided the spark for a publicly-supported commitment to creating a vibrant city core. While the building houses a remarkably unique superstructure, many years of weather infiltration and dilapidation prompted a feasibility study to determine whether the renovation of the building was more cost-effective than building new at the outskirts of town.

After review of the comparative cost analysis and the potential catalyst opportunity that the historical building represented, it was determined that the renovation was the optimal decision. Upon completion, the new building will house all functions of the City administration and the City Council Chambers.’
