Mariinsky II Theater // Saint Petersburg // Russia // Dominique Perrault
This is a proposed project by Dominique Perrault Architecture, located in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It results from an invited international competition held in June 2003. Start of conceptual design was back in June 2004 and the estimated completion is due in 2009. The winning project was designed by Canadian firm Diamond + Schmitt Architects.
‘Creation of a new stage connected to the former theatre which will equip Mariinsky with technical equipment unparalleled in the world: audience chamber with 2 000 seats for operas, ballets and symphonic concerts.
Small audience chamber with 350 seats, rehearsal spaces and studios. Public foyer, exhibition spaces, restaurants and shops. Administration, storages, technical spaces and parking. Technical connection connecting the new opera house with the historic Mariinsky Theater for scenery and staff transfer. Public connection over the Kryukov canal.’
