Kilden Performing Arts Center For Sørlandet By ALA

This project by Helsinki-based architectural firm ALA is currently under construction in Kristiansand, Norway. For their entry, ALA won 1st prize in a competition in 2005.
The building is to house different instances, like a theater and a concert hall, whom all get a joined symbol in the form of a massive curving wooden wall, which wraps all the functions within itself.
The construction site is located on a tight plot on a renewed industrial pier hinging the city center and a major recreational outdoor area.
Completion due in 2011.

This building certainly is very sleek and trendy. It’s a modern design with a bit of edge to it. I like things that are more traditional as a rule, but I have to admit that this has a very cool look to it. It’s location helps the design tremendously as well. I’m sure it’s going to be a big success in Norway.
That’s beautiful…….the pics which show the underside of the structure are extremely cool..with all the lights.
And as orrymain mentioned, the building does have an edge, literally, but that just makes the building all the more better. The guys who’re building this can make the edge just out a bit into the sea and then allow tourists to bungee jump from the top. Cool right!!!

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
