Guangzhou Clubhouse // China // MAD
The Guangzhou Clubhouse by Beijing-based architectural firm MAD is currently under construction. The 12,897 sqm project is located in Guangzhou, China.
The following text is from MAD:
‘The clubhouse is the hub of a residential development: a place to provide shared facilities and public space for residents to interact. Guangzhou Clubhouse was conceived as a holistic design: a fluid, floating roof, enveloping the structure, mirrored in the water that sits by its side.
The roof is the dominating feature: a continuous surface, that seems to float above the ground, creating different relationships and different height spaces beneath. These reflect the diverse functions of the clubhouse: from the lower end, used as a public lobby space, the clubhouse rises to four storeys, where it can accommodate two restaurants, a small hotel and a convenience store. In the middle of the roof, a void drops down through the building, providing light to the basement levels.
The water beside the clubhouse is also multi-faceted. As well as providing a reflective landscape for visitors, circular openings set in the water provide light to the area below. This area is in fact the indoor swimming pool, set below the lake. Water beneath water.’
