Alpine Capsule // Lovegrove Studio

‘The Alpine Capsule, designed by Lovegrove Studio in London, will be located in Piz la Ila (Alta Badia, Italy) at 2100 meters of altitude, surrounded by the beautiful frame of the Dolomites. The project is a prototype for a new way of living off-grid, even as a temporary experience, a new ambition for the 21st century that can be implemented in so many environments.

The proposed capsule has a diameter of eight metres, is made from acrylic with a reflective coating and has a 360 degree view. The capsule comprises a mounting living unit, where visitors can stay over night in the Italian Alps. Power is provided by several ‘power plants’, which consist of photovoltaic panels combined with a vertical axis wind turbine.’

  1. Brilliant first picture. Is it ok if I reuse it on a feature I’m writing about bicycle climbing and the effects of altitude?

Does your blog have a contact page? I’m having problems locating it but, I’d like to send you an e-mail. I’ve got some suggestions for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great blog and I look forward to seeing it grow over time. Thanks!

  3. Really neat camouflage idea. I wonder if they use that reflectance surface for solar power.
